Whitefish conducting climate survey

The city of Whitefish is drafting a climate action plan and is gathering input from Whitefish residents through a survey that’s being conducted online and through postcards available at various outlets in the city.

A 10-member climate action plan committee recently was established by the City Council and appointed by the mayor to identify opportunities for the city, school district and broader community to conserve energy, reduce costs and prepare for the future, according to City Manager Adam Hammatt.

“The plan is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, saving money through more efficient city operations and increasing sustainability throughout the entire Whitefish community,” Hammatt said in a press release.

The survey describes the seven guiding principles of the climate action plan and asks respondents to rank the importance of principles such as prioritizing greenhouse gas reduction, collaboration with other entities on climate issues and whether the city should incorporate climate strategies into citywide plans and initiative where appropriate.

Postcards are available at the Whitefish Community Center, Whitefish Library, City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce. Completed survey postcards can be dropped off at City Hall, mailed or deposited in the labeled cardboard box at the locations previously listed.
