Cadie Williams set a school record, scoring six goals and adding two assists in Glacier’s 9-3 victory over Missoula Sentinel in a Western AA conference soccer match on Tuesday at Glacier High School.

Williams had a hat trick by the 53rd minute, scoring five goals in the second half alone. Her six goals are a school record and the third-most ever scored in a Montana girls game.

“More importantly, we found our groove back,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said. “We’re an offensive team and found our groove. We learned our lesson last week, Sentinel is a dangerous team offensively. We had to keep the foot on the gas for sure.”

The scoring outburst, along with goals from Ellie Stevens, Maddie Becker and Mercedes Altman, broke a three-game losing streak for the Wolfpack (7-3-1) and helped keep pace in a race for the second seed in the West. Glacier leads Helena Capital (6-2-2) by two points with one game to play. The Bruins have two games left. The top two teams from each conference earn a bye into the state tournament.

Glacier ends the regular season on Thursday against Flathead.

Glacier seniors Brady Schultz and Rohit Tappeta combined for a pair of goals to rally Glacier to its fourth straight Western AA conference victory.

Schultz scored goals assisted by Tappeta in the 25th and 65th minutes, leading the Wolfpack out of a 1-0 hole for the win.

“We just played them last week, it’s always a challenge to play a team a week later,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “It was definitely a different game a week later.

“The boys stayed strong in there and played really well defensively. They were very patient in middle and really had some nice goal scoring opportunities.”

The Wolfpack boys moved past Helena High by one point for second place after the Bengals’ loss to top-ranked Hellgate on Tuesday. Glacier closes its regular season against Flathead on Thursday.
