Stillwater spikers advance to state championship match

Stillwater Christian won its third-straight volleyball match on Friday evening in the Montana Christian Athletic Association state tournament at Stillwater Christian School.

The Cougars defeated Foothill Community Christian School 25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 25-20.

Stillwater was 2-0 Thursday.

“Our girls came into this match with a determination to win,” Stillwater coach Diane Smith said. “Senior Katie Wilkey had her mind set on setting the block to start her team off with confidence. Junior Cora Boll came out with determination to set the offense up with a perfect pass. That determination caused the whole team to work together.”

Selah Neuman had a team high 16 kills for Stillwater and was second in aces with four. Helen Hashley had 11 kills and led in aces with five. Ramey Metzger had a team-high 29 assists and 14 digs.

Yellowstone County Home School will play Foothills today at 10 a.m. in a loser-out contest. That winner moves on to face Stillwater at 2:30 p.m. for the title.

Foothills is the defending state champion.

MISSOULA — Eureka almost pulled off a sweep in three, but dropped the third set before coming back to take the fourth for a 25-18, 25-18, 24-26, 25-15 victory over Missoula Loyola in a Class B nonconference outing.

Kassi Peterson had 15 of Eureka’s 36 blocks.

Eureka has a nonconference match today at Florence.

THOMPSON FALLS — Aurora Becquart had team-highs in kills (10) and aces (four) to help Troy defeat Thompson Falls 25-23, 25-20, 25-18 in a District 7B match.

Lexy VanElswyk had 12 kills for Thompson Falls. Riley Wilson led the Blue Hawks in digs (17) and assists (29).
