Glacier girls battle Helena to 4-all tie

In a feisty back-and-forth affair, Western AA foes Helena High and Glacier settled for a 4-4 tie on Saturday in girls soccer at Glacier High School.

Cadie Williams had a hat trick (three goals) for the third time this season for Glacier.

Taylor Brisendine scored the final goal and also assisted on one for the Wolfpack.

“A high intensity match between two goal scoring teams,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.

“Against a team the caliber of Helena High, I’m proud of the girls for what they did.”

Helena High had 28 shots on goal to 10 for Glacier.

Glacier plays at Missoula Big Sky on Thursday.

Helena Capital scored three goals in the second half to pull away from Flathead for a win at Kidsports Complex.

“They worked hard,” Flathead head coach Jenni Sipe said. “We were down about four players, so it was tough.

“Despite that, the girls played really hard.”

Aaris Hill had 28 saves in goal for Flathead.

The Bravettes travel to play Missoula Hellgate at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

BELGRADE — Belgrade gave itself an early lead and locked down on defense for all 80 minutes, beating Whitefish in a testy affair that included five yellow cards.

“We’re still learning,” Whitefish coach Roland Benedict said. “We have lots of players playing in new roles and learning a new system.”

Carlie Smith kicked off the scoring for the Panthers in the ninth minute.

Sammi Galbraith tallied 15 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

Whitefish hosts Libby at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Hannah Gedlaman scored two goals as Columbia Falls beat Frenchtown.

The Wildkats led 1-0 at the half but broke out offensively in the second to pull away.

“We just made a big adjustment in our mentality in the second half,” Columbia Falls head coach O’Brien Byrd said.

“We came out so much more hungry and aggressive. Frenchtown, they hustled and played very well.”

Glacier raced out of the gate for three goals in the first half and went on to tie Helena High at Glacier High School.

Helena struck quickly with a goal in the second minute, but Glacier responded just two minutes later with a goal of its own.

“It’s the first time we’ve been down all season, so conceding a goal early on was definitely a new situation these guys have been in,” Glacier head coach Ryan Billiet said. “For them to respond a couple minutes later with an equalizer really showed a lot of character.”

Glacier added two more goals in the half, with Brady Schultz scoring one and assisting on the other.
