Father says coach wrong to 'malign' students who complained

I’m writing in response to your article, “Fuller out as WHS volleyball coach.” I’m the father of one of the three seniors Coach Fuller unnecessarily maligned in the article. By singling out the seniors in the article Coach Fuller validated the concerns some of us had regarding how the volleyball program was run.

We raise our daughters to be independent thinkers and to respond to situations maturely. The three team captains approached Coach Fuller about her coaching style and interactions with the players during practices. The atmosphere during practices had become emotionally unhealthy. When asked by the players to compromise and meet them in the middle, Coach Fuller opted to quit rather than pursue more positive options. That decision was hers and hers alone to make and not the fault of the three senior captains as the article would indicate.

I am proud of my daughter and the other two captains for standing up for themselves and the younger girls on the team. I also applaud Whitefish High School administrators for finally and definitively dealing with a chronic issue with the volleyball program.

I will continue to fervently support WHS academic and athletic programs.
