Grande 3rd for Glacier boys at Butte golf

BUTTE — A.J. Grande just missed out on his first medalist honors at the Butte Invitational golf tournament on Thursday.

Grande finished two shots behind the winner with a 150 total.

Jack Johnston of Missoula Sentinel, 148, was the medalist.

Grande shot a 76 on Wednesday at Old Works Golf Course and turned in 74 on Thursday at the Butte Country Club.

Teammate Brayden Aurich, 83-79—162, tied for 12th.

Glacier finished sixth in the team standings.

Flathead did not have a top 15 individual. The Braves were ninth in the team standings.

Butte, 632, edged Bozeman, 635, for the title while Sentinel, 639, was a close third.

Annika Danenhauer, 72-84—154 and Kameryn Basye, 79-75—154, tied for medalist honors in girls play and helped Bozeman run off with the team trophy. The Hawks had a 632 score with Butte a distant second at 814.

Glacier’s girls were fourth.

Flathead’s Marcella Mercer, 94-87—181, was seventh. Teammate Cassidy Lavin, 101-98—199, was 11th.

Kate Trunkle of Glacier, 101-106—207, finished 15th.

Only four schools posted team scores in girls play.
