Bragging rights at stake in Crosstown Cup

Bragging rights are on the line this week in the Flathead Valley.

The Flathead and Glacier golf teams will take to the course at Village Greens in Kalispell today to begin the third annual Crosstown Cup.

The event will not affect seedings at next week’s state tournament, but it will provide an opportunity for each team to claim superiority over its in-town foe.

Glacier has taken home the Cup in each of the first two years of the event.

The Wolfpack squeaked by the Braves and Bravettes 74-70 last year thanks to a dominant outing by the girls team. In 2015, Glacier enjoyed a more comfortable 73.5-50.5 victory.

The tournament’s format is a unique one, a co-ed mix of Chapman match play and a four-person scramble.

Chapman match play, which Flathead and Glacier will play on the front nine, is a two-person format in which both players hit drives, play each other’s second shots and then alternate shots on the best ball to the hole.

The four-person scramble — made up of two boys and two girls from each team — will be featured on the back nine.

The same format will be utilized on the second day of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.

Play begins at 3 p.m. today at Village Greens.
