| April 1, 2018 4:00 AM

Farm Hands-Nourish the Flathead is having a community night from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at The Raven, 15321 Montana 35, in Woods Bay, five miles south of Bigfork.

Dinner is available for $15, of which $10 and $1 of every drink benefit the nonprofit organization’s mission to connect people to the source of their food and to those who produce it, through education, outreach and market support.

Fundraiser for diabetes research

Hu Hot in Kalispell hosts its eighth annual fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

One hundred percent of the day’s sales, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, will be donated to the Foundation.

In the last seven years, nearly $70,000 has been raised for the Foundation through the fundraiser.

PlantWise Flathead events in April

The PlantWise Flathead group is hosting a couple of events in April focused on health and wellness and care for the planet.

A one-night only release of the film “Eating You Alive” will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Signature Theaters in Kalispell. The film chronicles the stories of lives seriously transformed among those suffering from chronic conditions. With its release nationwide, this documentary shines a light on PlantPure Communities, called pods, one of which exists here in the Flathead Valley.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Signature Theaters in Kalispell.

Members and the public are also invited to a health potluck from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the Fellowship Hall at Northridge Lutheran Church in Kalispell. Participants are asked to bring a whole food, plant-based dish to share, along with the recipe. (The dish may include whole grains, vegetables, beans, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices, but no meat, dairy or eggs.)

This is a social event where participants have the opportunity to share a meal, discuss the film and learn more about taking charge of their health.

PlantWise Flathead established itself two years ago after another film, “Plant Pure Nation,” was released. Hosts Diana and Michael Blend had previous training in the Complete Health Improvement Program, a lifestyle intervention program. Their group offers local potlucks and educational meetings to help members succeed in adopting a plant-based lifestyle.

PlantWise Flathead keeps members apprised of events on its Kalispell Meet-Up website, which has nearly 200 members. The group also posts other sources of information and cooking classes on its Meet-Up page.
