Creston Auction this weekend

The 52nd Annual Creston Auction and Country Fair and accompanying RV, Marine, Auto and Equipment Sale will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 7 and 8, in Creston, 12 miles east of Kalispell on Montana 35.

Friday is Consignment Day. Items can be consigned, meaning a portion of the sale price goes back to the seller, or donated, meaning all proceeds of the sale go to the Creston Fire Department. Merchandise will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the sale grounds.

Grounds open at 7 a.m. Saturday. The general merchandise auction kicks off at 9 a.m., following the opening ceremonies. Bid tickets for Saturday cost $5 and go on sale at 7 a.m. Attendees can also purchase locally made art and handcrafts, rummage sale items and homemade baked goods.

The vehicle and equipment sale begins at 11 a.m. Sunday. The day’s $10 bid tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. There is no entrance fee and no buyer’s premium. Bid ticket charges go entirely toward paying for 24-hour security for the weekend. Bid tickets will also be available for purchase on Friday.

The Creston Auction and Country Fair has been held each year since 1966. Benefiting the all-volunteer fire department, it is the largest spring event in Montana, drawing thousands of people from throughout the region and Canada annually.

Flathead County Republicans host their Lincoln Reagan Day Brunch Sunday, April 15, in the Expo Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds, Kalispell.

Doors open at noon. The brunch buffet begins at 1 p.m.

Meet all four Republican candidates for U.S. Senate, Troy Downing, Russ Fagg, Dr. Al Olszewski and Matt Rosendale, as well as other local candidates. Sen. Steve Daines and Congressman Greg Gianforte will also be in attendance.

A silent auction will be held.

Tickets are $30 single, or $50 per couple. Tables of eight may be reserved for $240. VIP table for eight are $300.

A Brews for Benefits fundraiser for Friends of Scotchman Peaks will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Cabinet Mountain Brewing Co. in Libby.

Author Jim Posewitz, former Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks assistant director, and Montana State University professor of history and philosophy, will be signing copies of his new book, “My Best Shot – Discovering and Living the Montana Conservation Ethic.”

Background music will be provided by pianist Clayton DeSimone. Friends will also be recognizing volunteers and buying the first beer for those who wear their Friends’ gear.

On Friday, April 6, Posewitz will be at the K.W. Maki Theater in Libby from 6 to 8 p.m. He will talk about conservation in Montana and the ongoing necessity of community education and involvement needed. Signed books will be available.
