Robot deployed in tense standoff

Kalispell Police Department responded to a report of a woman threatening to shoot herself with a handgun at a west side residence around 11 p.m. Monday.

While she did not live at the home, she was known by one of the residents, according to police. Other people inside the house were able to safely evacuate the home.

Officers briefly spoke to the woman by phone, but she reportedly was being uncooperative and the line was disconnected. Police attempted to communicate again, but she allegedly refused to talk, barricading herself inside the house. The Kalispell Special Response Team was called to assist in negotiations. After several hours of trying to contact the woman without success, the response team deployed a robot into the home to check on her welfare. Negotiations began for a short time. At 2:30 a.m., the woman was taken into custody and transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. The incident is under investigation.

Someone told Kalispell Police that a 15-pack of beer and a portable stereo had been taken from his or her garage.

Someone allegedly caught two teenagers breaking into his or her vehicle.

A man reported that “someone robbed his trailer” and stole “lots” of construction equipment.

A person who said they were with Habitat for Humanity told police that bolt cutters had been used to open a lock on a trailer and cordless tools were taken.

An employee who told police that people were sleeping in a vehicle behind the buildings and littering requested extra patrol at a storage unit facility.

Someone who discovered a large generator on the west side of a pond didn’t need police to contact them, but “just thought it looked out of place.”

A Columbia Falls resident was certain criminal mischief was afoot when “lawn furniture” had allegedly been moved around. The resident showed officers with Flathead County Sheriff’s Department that a tire rim, which served as a fire ring, had reportedly been moved six feet to the north. The resident then claimed three wood logs being used as chairs had been tossed onto a bank four feet from their original location.

A verbal disturbance was reported on Riverstone Drive in Kalispell when a man reportedly tried to fight someone’s son.

A bartender didn’t know what to do with an intoxicated woman who allegedly refused to leave the refuge of a porch on Hungry Horse Boulevard in Hungry Horse to get a ride. The bartender was concerned she was trying to sleep on the porch and would be left outside all night.

Two horses may have been trying to flee the return of winter weather when seen on the loose on Sundance Court.

Later on, three cows were spotted on the road by someone on Batavia Lane in Kalispell.

A Columbia Falls man listened to a threatening voicemail left at a residence where he was house sitting and had a couple of suspects in mind.

A man on Grand Drive in Bigfork was advised that he could have a vehicle towed that was allegedly parking in a lot on private property on an ongoing basis. The man told officers he had left notes on the vehicle to no avail.

A hysterical woman was seen rolling around on the ground by a passerby on Helena Flats Road. A man had allegedly run over her foot.

A man in a vehicle was reportedly seen swinging, screaming and throwing water bottles at a woman on Main Street in Kalispell.

Someone on Scenic Ridge Road in Kalispell requested officers check on the welfare of a man who appeared distraught and was pacing frantically and pulling on his shirt.
