Creston Auction and Fair

The 52nd annual Creston Auction and Country Fair is this weekend in Creston, 12 miles east of Kalispell on Montana 35.

Today is Consignment Day. Consignments may be dropped off at the sale grounds between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Grounds open at 7 a.m. Saturday and the general merchandise auction kicks off at 9 a.m., following opening ceremonies. Bid tickets are $5 and go on sale at 7 a.m. Locally made art and handcrafts, rummage sale items and homemade baked goods will also be for sale.

The RV, marine, auto and equipment sale begins at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 8. Bid tickets are $10 and go on sale at 9 a.m. There is no entrance fee. Bid tickets will also be available for purchase today.

Backpacking 101

A three-part Backpacking 101 class series kicks off from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at Lone Pine State Park near Kalispell.

Part I is on organization and planning. Pre-registration is required. Call 755-2706, ext. 2.

Part II takes place from 5:30 p.m., April 13. The topic is “Leave no Trace and Gear Repair.”

Part III is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 20 on “Camp Set Up and Cooking.”

FVCC Spring Concert

Flathead Valley Community College’s Spring Concert Series offers a program at 7 p.m. today in the Arts and Technology Building. Students in private instruction and the Chamber Ensemble will perform. The concert is free and the public is invited.

Professor speaks in Libby

Author Jim Posewitz, former Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks assistant director, and Montana State University professor of history and philosophy, will be at the K.W. Maki Theater in Libby from 6 to 8 p.m. today to talk about conservation in Montana.

Annual trapper meeting

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Montana Trappers Association hosts an annual meeting 10 a.m. Saturday at FWP headquarters, 490 Meridian Road, Kalispell. Regulations and annual harvest information will be presented and discussed. The public is welcome to attend.

Soroptimist bag sale

The Soroptimist Thrift Haus in Whitefish has its spring bag sale from 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Fill a plastic grocery bag for $5. Located at 303 First St., the Thrift Haus is operated by volunteer members of Soroptimist International of Whitefish. All sale proceeds are donated to area nonprofits focusing on improving the lives of women and children.

Eagles International Dinner

The Eagles lodging hosts its annual International Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 37 First St. W., in Kalispell. Eight cuisines will be featured — American, German, Irish, Mexican, Chinese, Hawaiian, Italian and Scandinavian. Cost $12 per person, under 12, $6. Proceeds go to Eagles charities.
