Whitefish Mountain Resort celebrated its closing weekend with the annual pond skim contest Saturday afternoon. Thousands of spectators lined the Middle Fork slope to cheer on 60 costume-clad skiers and snowboarders as they battled for $1,000 in cash prizes.
The ski resort wraps up its 70th winter season Sunday with a settled base of 159 inches at the summit. More than 400 inches of snow fell on Big Mountain this season, ranking 2017-18 among the snowiest winters on record at the resort.
The resort will reopen for summer activities on weekends beginning May 26 through June 10, with full daily operations starting June 16.
