The only wall between Trump and success

| April 7, 2018 9:20 PM

President Trump can wager his future legacy on making liberals happy, which would be a fool’s bet, or he can ensure his legacy by doing what he was elected to do and “Build That Wall.”

Whether Trump is turned out of office in 2020, impeached by a Democratic Congress in 2019, or serves a second term to the shock and dismay of the national news media is immaterial. The nation will survive another bad president and will yawn through another mediocre two-term president like W or Obama, but it cannot long endure without borders and without an understanding of its own destiny.

Therefore, the only thing that will guarantee Trump his place as a president worth a damn is if he gets on with the task at hand and preserves the sovereignty of the nation.

Trump has had some great successes in other areas — rolling back regulations, passing tax cuts, creating jobs, crushing ISIS in Syria, getting North Korea’s attention, ending the individual mandate of Obamacare, and of course appointing a respecter of the Constitution to the Supreme Court — but none of that will matter if he doesn’t return the United States to a country of citizens rather than residents.

The “caravan” of Hondurans and other Latin Americans crossing Mexico last week in search of “asylum” in the United States is the perfect picture of what’s wrong with our country. Rather than protecting ourselves — and our own — as we slip into inevitable insolvency, we have a massive Democrat-inspired lobby arguing that the right thing to do is welcome these hundreds of people across the border, then set them free to take American jobs, send money back to their homelands, and protest in the streets for their “rights” as “displaced people.”

Actually, the only thing “displaced” is our sense of right and wrong. Borders exist for a reason, and when borders collapse, so do countries. Just ask the Roman Empire what happened when caravans of barbarian tribes descended into the Italian peninsula. Fortunately, President Trump has recognized that an emergency exists, and has now signed an order to mobilize the National Guard on our southern border. He’ll take heat from his enemies, but taking heat for doing the right thing is a badge of honor.

Now, he needs to find a way to build that wall — with or without the approval of Congress. He already has the approval of the American people who elected him, and if he delivers on this one promise, he will have the approval of history.
