Five Flathead Valley athletes and two local relay teams hold the top marks recorded thus far by Montanans in the state’s young track and field season.

Glacier’s Ethan Larson and Bigfork’s Bryn Morley headline the list with the state’s best time in two running events.

Larson holds the fastest mark in the 100-meter dash (10.96 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (22.57), and Morley tops all Montanans in the 800-meter run (two minutes, 16.88 seconds) and the 1,600-meter run (4:55.14).

Morley ran her time in the 1,600-meter run at the Chandler Rotary Elite event in Arizona.

Larson is also a member of Glacier’s 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams, both of which are the fastest in the state so far. The Wolfpack’s best 4x100 time is 43.19, and its top 4x400 mark is 3:30.09.

Ben Perrin, a Flathead junior, leads the way in the 3,200-meter run at 9:04.56, a time run at the Arcadia Invitational in California that is just more than one-fifth of a second off the all-class state record. Perrin is also only one-fifth of a second off the state’s top time for the season in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:00.26.

Glacier’s Drew Deck tops all Montanans in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.33, and Hunter Nicholson, another member of the Wolfpack, holds the mark to beat in the long jump at 21 feet, 6.5 inches.

Other locals in the top 3 of their respective events include Drew Turner of Glacier (second in boys 200-meter dash and member of both relay teams), Jay Beagle of Libby (third in boys 400-meter dash), Elijah Boyd of Glacier (third in boys 800-meter run and member of 4x400 team), Gavin Strom of Libby (second in boys long jump), Haile Norred of Bigfork (second in girls 400-meter dash), Annie Hill of Glacier (second in girls 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run) and Madison Boles of Flathead (second in girls high jump).
