Bascom Harold Monzingo, 91

| April 12, 2018 4:00 AM

Bascom Harold Monzingo, cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the age of 91.

Harold was born in Minden, Louisiana, on Christmas Day. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1945, then began his studies at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in business. He began his career of 39 years with Murphy Oil Corp. in El Dorado, Arkansas, in 1951. There he married Betty, his beloved wife of 67 years.

His time with Murphy Oil took the family to Calgary, Alberta, in 1968, where he served as president of the company. It was there that his love of hunting, fishing and water-skiing transitioned to include downhill and cross-country skiing. Betty and Harold’s passion for golf, skiing and hiking led them to Whitefish, where they still reside today. Longing to return to the South, they also have lived part-time in Lakeway, Texas, since 1997.

Harold is survived by his wife Betty, his children Steve Monzingo (wife Pam) of Calgary, and Cindy LaChance (husband Tom) of Whitefish, and grandchildren Kristen and Tyler Monzingo, and Alissa and Clay LaChance.

A celebration of life will be held in Whitefish in June, the day and time to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the charity of your choice.
