Polson wallops Browning in softball
POLSON — Polson annihilated Browning 30-0 on Thursday evening in a lopsided battle of Northwest A conference softball foes.
The Pirates pushed across a staggering 17 runs in the second inning alone. They scored five in the first and added eight more in the third.
“It was nice to see all the bats come alive the way they did,” Polson coach Larry Smith said. “We played very good.”
Polson racked up 27 hits, including seven that went for extra bases, and was the beneficiary of five Browning errors.
Kaelyn Smith and Laurel Bitterman packed a punch at the top of the order, leading the hit parade with four apiece.
Vanessa Kent picked up the win in the circle after tossing two perfect innings to start.
“Just good control,” Smith said of what made his starter so effective. “She was hitting all of her spots.”
Paige Noyes followed with a pair of scoreless frames before Grace Quinones fired a perfect fifth inning to cap off a win that was never in question.
Polson’s next outing figures to be much more competitive.
The Pirates visit Libby for a battle of Northwest A contenders at 5:30 p.m. today. The Loggers took home an 8-5 win earlier this season at Polson.
