POLSON — Leadoff hitter Kaelyn Smith smacked a triple to left field in the bottom of the first inning to spark the offense early and Vanessa Kent was stellar in the circle as Polson shut down Frenchtown 5-0 in a nonconference Class A softball clash on Tuesday evening.

Smith finished the game with two hits. She also doubled in the fourth, and stole two bases.

Kent checked Frenchtown on two singles and a double while striking out five and walking just two batters.

Laurel Bitterman and Paige Noyes also went 2 for 3 for Polson, which had 10 hits.

Catcher Kaylanna Desjarlais belted her first home run of the season, a shot to center field with Josie Caye on base. Caye reached on an error.

Polson did all of its scoring early, with a run in the first and two runs in the second and third innings.

Polson (7-2 overall, 5-0 league) is back in action Friday with two games at the Frenchtown tournament — noon versus Lewistown and 4 p.m. against Hamilton.

The loss was Frenchtown’s first this spring to a Class A team.
