Harry Colby Smith, 79

| April 28, 2018 4:00 AM

In loving memory, Harry Colby Smith, 79, passed away March 23, 2018. He loved to travel and got his chance when he joined the Air Force after graduating from Long Beach, California, in 1954. It was an unforgettable time in his life meeting so many new and interesting people and seeing much of the world.

Colby was interested in anything outdoors. He was fondest of the seas and all relating to the ocean, whether it be the study of fishes and ocean currents to water sports. Being a California native, he loved to surf, dive and sail.

In later years, Colby moved and retired in Kalispell. He and his wife Cindy planted a forest around their home, as well as raised beautiful flowers, chickens, ducks and turkeys.

Colby was a very talented artist. He had a great eye for color and was especially good with fusing glass and stained glass work. He was a regular customer and visitor to art galleries and festivals around Flathead Valley.

Colby is survived by his daughter, Pamela Smith Green, and grandchildren, Alexander and Lila Green; his wife, Cindy, of 23 years, and her daughters Tammy Fox Winne, Lisa Fox Robins, and Robin Fox Croskey and their families. He is remembered by his sister, Barbara Parkins, of California; and mother-in-law, Lorraine Robinson, of Conrad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irene Smith; first wife, Jean Smith; and stepgrandson, Pierce J. Beach.

Colby will be missed. He loved live and was loved in life.
