Softball Wolfpack splits with Helena schools; Flathead 0-2
HELENA —Glacier (7-6 overall, 5-5 league) collected a split in Western AA softball play on Saturday, thumping Helena High 10-5 while falling to league leader Helena Capital 10-0.
Freshman Kynzie Mohl led off the Helena contest with a home run, her fourth of the season for Glacier.
She also tripled in the third inning.
Her four home runs have been hit in the last five games.
Glacier had 16 hits. Mohl, Sophie Smith and Meg Hornby led the offense with three each.
Smith drove in four runs.
Sage Vanterpool went the distance in the circle for the victory. She allowed six hits, fanned 10 batters and walked three.
“We really needed to win this game to improve in the conference,” Glacier coach Abby Connolly said.
“That was a big win for us.”
Helena High beat Glacier earlier this season 7-3.
Capital pitcher Shelby Martin tossed a 2-hitter against the Wolfpack. Smith and Alivia Atlee both singled.
Capital tallied eight runs in the first inning. The game ended after five innings on the 10-run rule.
Glacier has a nonconference test on Tuesday at home versus Class A power Polson.

HELENA — Flathead (4-10, 2-8) managed to take an early lead on Western AA leader Helena Capital, but the Bruins came back with 2-run innings in the second, third and fourth to pull out the victory.
Capital is undefeated in Western AA play.
Kaileigh Denna doubled in the first inning to drive in a run for Flathead.
Helena High rolled out to a 5-0 lead after three innings en route to the win over the Bravettes.
Mariah English fanned 10 batters and walked three in going the distance for the Bengals.
Riley Chouinard, who was 0 for 4 for Flathead against Capital, went 4 for 4 against Helena High.
Flathead is back in action Tuesday at Class A Columbia Falls.
