Kalispell to proceed on RV park proposal

Kalispell City Council on Monday voted to hold a public hearing to discuss proposed changes to the city’s growth policy that would allow a new 330-space recreational vehicle park on the south end of town.

As proposed, the RV park would require the city amend its growth policy map to designate this area as suitable for mixed-use rather than just urban-residential use.

The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 20 in the council chambers. The council will listen to public feedback on the growth policy map amendment and use that to inform their decision when they take a vote on the change at a later council meeting.

The parcel of land the park is proposed for is currently undeveloped. It is bordered by the Great Northern Historical bike trail along the western and southern boundaries, and the Montana Department of Transportation bike trail along the northern boundary, which separates the lot from the U.S. 93 bypass. A line extending south from the southernmost roundabout would approximate the park’s eastern border and would extend south all the way to Ashley Meadows Road.

The two Florida-based developers behind the project, Montana Basecamp, Inc. and Basecamp Outpost LLC, said the location at the south end of town was ideal because of its proximity to both the amenities of downtown and the bike path. The Planning Board voted in July to recommend approval of the project.

Also at Monday’s council meeting:

- Council approved a request to build two four-plex multi-family housing units on a 0.39-acre lot at 21 Appleway Drive. The units proposed are two-stories and with a 1,920-square-foot footprint each. The request comes from Kalispell-based Edge, LLC. The project will require the developer upgrade Appleway Drive to add a curb.

- Council also approved final plans for a 46-lot residential development on 9.3 acres on a lot east of Treeline Road, west of the Kidsports athletic complex and north of Four Mile Drive. The project constitutes phase 2 of a larger 85-acre Bloomstone development. The application comes from A2Z Engineering on behalf of Kalispell National Investment Company.
