100 degree heat breaks Kalispell record

Kalispell officially broke previous record-high temperatures for August 10, reaching 100 degrees by 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to a spokesperson from the National Weather Service in Missoula.

The previous record for the day was 99 degrees, set in 2003.

Other northwestern Montana towns also saw record-breaking or near record-breaking temperatures Friday, recorded as the hottest day of 2018 so far.

Temperatures across the valley were expected to drop over the weekend as a low-pressure cold front moves in to replace the high-pressure system that dominated the area for most of the week.

The cold front was expected to bring with it winds up to 25 mph, with a high near 94 degrees and a low of 53 degrees for Saturday.

Sunday’s forecast is sunny with a high near 82 degrees and persisting winds reaching up to 13 mph. Evening temperatures are expected to drop to a low of around 50 degrees.
