Boater finds severed hand on lake

A woman boating on Flathead Lake in Bigfork advised Flathead County Sheriff’s Office that she reportedly saw what appeared to be a hand with a string on it, partially submerged in the water. The woman said she wasn’t certain if the hand was fake or real and couldn’t return to the exact spot because the water was choppy.

A verbal disturbance was reported at a Bigfork residence by someone who claimed that everyone was afraid to go to sleep because a man in the house had a “sinister spirit, is sneaky and a liar.” The person who wanted the man removed, reportedly said the man was acting belligerent and confrontational, but was “vile,” not “violent.” Officers spoke with the supposedly sinister man who allegedly said he was waiting for some “shipments” to arrive and would be moving out in a few days.

A passerby requested deputies to check on the welfare of a supposedly intoxicated man seen sleeping on the side of a road in Columbia Falls. The passerby said the man stated he was getting a ride and wasn’t sure if a deputy needed to respond, but noted the man was in no shape to be walking near the highway.

A woman on River Road in Columbia Falls was reportedly afraid that an older man carrying a white trash bag was going to get in her horse pasture, or walk into the highway, after he allegedly kept walking in circles and taking his shirt on and off. The man was purportedly OK — he just had nowhere to go, so he was walking around.

A vehicle reportedly drove through a gas station on U.S. 2 in Columbia Falls throwing firecrackers out a window. Officers made contact with the vehicle and a man said he threw a “snap pop” out the window, not a lit firecracker.

A Marion man requested a call from animal control after his dogs were reportedly shot on another man’s property. The caller said he was with one dog at the “emergency room” and believed the other to be dead on the man’s property. The caller alleged the man shot the dogs because he thought they were getting into his chicken coop, but the caller had purportedly watched the incident happen and claimed the dogs were nowhere near it.

Unable to unlock a vehicle containing a 13-month-old who had unbuckled himself and was crawling around near plastic bags, law enforcement resorted to breaking a window to get the child out on U.S. 2 in Kalispell.

Officers collected two syringes a woman found in field near Four Mile Drive and took them to Kalispell Police Department for destruction.

Someone called to report a driver throwing a cigarette out of a vehicle on U.S. 2 reportedly because of the high fire danger.

A woman was allegedly screaming and being chased by a man on Second Street in Columbia Falls. Both parties were separated for the night.

A vehicle and a small pickup were seen racing down U.S. 93 from Whitefish.

Someone reportedly heard a single gunshot and a man and woman fighting and screaming on Shady Lane in Kalispell.

A Columbia Falls resident was suspicious of a woman with a shirtless man who reportedly came down their driveway, to their house, and said they wrecked their car and thought they were walking to Columbia Falls. The resident said the pair didn’t ask him or her to call 911 and thought they were acting strangely.
