No. 25600 LEGAL NOTICE Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) has completed an environmental assessment (EA) for the removal of a deteriorating fishing pier from the bank of the Flathead River at Old Steel Bridge Fishing Access Site (FAS). The FAS is located approximately 3 miles east of Kalispell on Holt Stage Road (T21N, R10W, Section 28). Copies of the decision notice are available at the FWP office, 490 N. Meridian Rd., Kalispell; Montana State Library, 1515 E 6th Ave., Helena; FWP State Headquarters, 1420 E 6th Ave., Helena; the FWP website at http://fwp.mt.gov/news/publicNotices/decisionNotices/pn_0910.html; and available for viewing at local libraries. The draft EA was out for a 15-day public review from July 10 through July 25, 2018. FWP received five comments, with two supporting the project, two opposed, and one neutral. FWP approves the removal of the fishing pier at Old Steel Bridge FAS and believes removal of the failing fishing pier and restoring the riverbank to more natural conditions is the most effective way to eliminate the immediate safety hazard. Once the immediate safety hazard is resolved, FWP can pursue funding and a more suitable location to build a similar facility.
