Missoula Invitational golf Polson's Hobbs medals; Flathead's Mercer third

MISSOULA — Matt Hobbs shot a 3-over 75 at Canyon River Golf Club on the final day of the Missoula Invitational to claim medalist honors on Tuesday afternoon.
Hobbs shot a 1-over 72 on Monday at the Missoula Country Club for a four-shot edge on the field. He finished two shots ahead of Missoula Sentinel’s Jack Johnston, 76-73—149.
Johnston had the low round on Tuesday.
Zach Taylor of Hamilton, 78-76—154, was third and Tristan Hanson, also of Hamilton, 82-75—157, was fourth.
Polson’s Trey Kelley, 76-84—160, tied for seventh with two other golfers.
Sentinel, 638, Hamilton, 654, and Helena Capital, 656, finished 1-2-3 in the team standings.
Polson, 676, was sixth, Glacier, 696, seventh and Flathead, 733, 10th.
Sentinel’s Emily Garden shot a 1-over 72 on Tuesday to capture medalist honors for girls.
She trailed by two shots after her 79 on Monday.
Macee Greenwood of Corvallis, who led the first round with a 77, slipped to an 83 for the final 18 and a 160 total.
Marcella Mercer, a Flathead sophomore, was third, 82-84—166.
Polson’s Cali Cannon, 84-93—177, was fifth and Glacier’s Alanna Griffin, 90-89—179, placed eighth.
Team wise, Helena High, 730, Missoula Sentinel, 787, and Glacier, 796, finished 1-2-3.
Flathead, 802, was fourth and Polson, 878, seventh.
This was the second outing for Flathead and Glacier. Next on the schedule for both schools is the Butte Invitational on Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
