Prep sports go into full swing this weekend and it’ll be volleyball’s turn on Saturday.

The Flathead and Glacier girls varsity teams will set up their seasons against C.M. Russell and Great Falls High School that will take place at Flathead High School.

Glacier will take on Great Falls at 12:30 p.m. and then CMR at 3:45. Flathead starts with a match against CMR at 12:30 and then will play Great Falls at 3:45.

Flathead

Flathead (7-17 overall) has a slew of home games in September before spending most of October on the road. It’s going to be tough, but Flathead coach Nicole Fairclough has seen her team make great strides since last year.

“We’re looking to continue to improve upon that,” Fairclough said. “I think it’s tough to be on the road that much in a row, but I also think the team’s ready for a challenge.”

The Bravettes return five players from last year’s varsity for this upcoming season. Two-second team all-conference players return as well: senior outside hitter Maddie Boles and junior outside hitter Julia Burden. Senior middle hitters Taylor Henley and Hannah O’Dell are also expected to be impact players this season.

Glacier

The Wolfpack clinched a spot at state in thrilling fashion and going 14-12 overall on the season. The season ended with two losses in the Class AA tournament, but Glacier has its sights set on getting even farther this season.

“Definitely looking forward to this season and we’ve got a lot of great kids in our program,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said. “They’re good competitors and good people, so we’re looking forward to spending a lot of time with them and having a good time.”

From last year’s squad, senior middle hitter Kali Gulick returns, as well as senior defensive specialist Maddie Johnson.

Glacier has a packed home schedule in September and an October loaded with away games.
