Whitefish Theatre Co. announces auditions for two shows

| December 6, 2018 4:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions in December for two theater productions.

- On Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 10 and 11, at 7 p.m., auditions will be held for “Mamma Mia: The Musical.”

- On Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m., auditions will be held for a Black Curtain production of “Ripcord.”

All auditions take place at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Enter on the north side of the building near the Green Room and arrive early to fill out an audition application and review the script.

Put on your platform shoes, your feather boas and get ready for “Mamma Mia,” one of the most popular musicals of all time. On the eve of her wedding, Sophie is on a quest to discover the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle. Not knowing which of the three possible men from her mother’s diary to invite, she brings all three of them back to the Greek island where they last visited 20 years ago. The storytelling magic of the Swedish pop group ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, including their greatest hits “Super Trouper,” “Dancing Queen,” “Waterloo”, “SOS” and more. Called “the sunniest of all musicals,” over 60 million people around the world have fallen in love with the characters, the story and the music that make Tony-Award winning “Mamma Mia” the ultimate feel-good musical.

Whitefish Theatre Co. Artistic Director Kim Krueger is the director of “Mamma Mia.” Don Caverly will serve as the music director.

There are several lead and ensemble roles in the cast for men and women, high school age and older.

All ages are needed. Total time commitment for this production is seven weeks with rehearsals starting in January. There are seven performances over two weekends on Feb. 21-24 and March 1-3.

In “Ripcord,” battle lines are being drawn at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. The prize? A sunny room on an upper floor that is prime real estate. Cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new arrival Marilyn, a fiercely cheerful new roomie who wants the bed next to the window. Not willing to give up her spot, Abby decides she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. To settle the score, a seemingly harmless bet between the women not only reveals the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but quickly escalates into an outrageous game of one-upmanship. “Ripcord” is “The Odd Couple” meets “The Golden Girls” in this over-the-top story from David Lindsay-Abaire (Pulitzer Prize winning author of “Rabbit Hole,” “Fuddy Meers” and “Good People”).

Katie Nixon is the director of “Ripcord.” The cast needs three women, ages 20s to 80s, and three men, ages 20s to 40s. As a Black Curtain show, actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. Total time commitment for this production is two to three weeks. There will be two performances over one weekend on Jan. 26 and 27. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition for any show. Pages from the script will be provided.
