Braves post 3-0 mark on 1st day of wrestling at Mining City Duals

BUTTE — Flathead came through with two blow out wins and edged Butte 25-24 on Friday during first-day action at the Mining City Duals wrestling tournament.

Flathead, 8-0 in duals this season, blasted Belgrade 68-4 and hammered Missoula Hellgate 66-12.

Tanner Russell (170) had three pins for Flathead.

Also wrestling three matches for the Braves was Cole Eastwood (103/113). He won twice by pin and prevailed in a wild 15-13 overtime decision versus Butte.

Wrestling action concludes today. The Braves face Billings West at 10 a.m. and tangle with Helena Capital at 12:30 p.m. If Flathead wins both, it advances to the semifinals at 4:30 p.m.

Flathead finished second at this event last year.

“Tomorrow will be a grind,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said, “but we are looking forward to it.”

Also competing in the duals are Glacier, Columbia Falls, Polson and Ronan. Results from those schools were not available.
