Wrestling Flathead fourth at Mining City Duals; Dogs 2nd at Kinney

BUTTE — Flathead wound up in fourth place at the Mining City Duals wrestling tournament on Saturday.
Tanner Russell went undefeated for the Braves and moved his record up to 12-0. He went 4-0 on on the final day, winning all his matches by pins.
The Braves are now 10-2 for the season in duals.
Flathead split on the final day, beating Billings West 39-30 and Helena Capital 57-15. Bozeman beat Flathead 45-28 and Great Falls High rolled over the Braves 46-9.
Flathead won all three of its duals on Friday.
Flathead finished second last year at this event.
“This weekend was exactly what this team needed,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.
“We battled with the toughest teams in the state and competed. A lot of wrestlers had four tough opponents today and just didn’t have anything left in the tank at the end. We have areas to improve on and are excited to get back to work on Monday at practice.”
Flathead continues with tournament action Friday and Saturday in Coeur d’Alene at the Tri-State event.
Also competing in Butte were Glacier, Columbia Falls, Polson and Ronan.

Glacier
The Wolfpack came up short three times in dual action on the final day of the tournament.
Glacier lost to Billings West 51-21, Butte 55-18 and Great Falls High 56-12.
“Even though we didn’t come away with any wins today, our kids are continuing to improve each time they step on the mat,” Glacier coach Ross Dankers said.
“We battled through some injuries toward the end of the day, but the breakthroughs we experienced this weekend are very encouraging. Can not wait to get back to work on Monday and continuing to build and grow this great group of kids.”
Glacier had a super first day, going 2-1. The Wolfpack beat Billings West 36-25, Colstrip 51-21 before losing a tough one to Missoula Sentinel 37-36.
“Could not be more proud of our wrestlers (on Friday). To come out on top of a pool with two solid AA teams and the defending class B state champions is a huge step for our program and a real testament to our team’s grit and resolve. We had a huge day from Tristan Little and Colby Martin showing some senior leadership and both going 3-0 with three pins. Today was a true team effort where people throughout the lineup grinded out solid matches and that was the deciding factor.”
Glacier is back on the mats Friday and Saturday at the C.M. Russell Invitational in Great Falls.

SUPERIOR — Whitefish’s Nathan Sproul (103) and Dakota Flannery (138) captured individual titles and helped the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in the team standings behind Cut Bank.
Cut Bank had a 132 total to 117 for Whitefish.
Sproul and Flannery both won their championship matches by pins.
Whitefish’s Dean Kellogg (120) was second.
Libby had two individual champions in Zach Morrison (132) and Trey Thompson (145).
Justin Olson of Glacier JV won the title at 285.
