Glacier earns second-place berth in hard-fought battle
The competition was close for Class AA and Class A speech and debate teams battling it out word by word in Bozeman over the weekend.
In Class AA, Glacier High School took second place with 156.5 overall sweepstakes points, followed by Flathead High School in third with 129 points. Bozeman secured a first-place win with 191.5 overall points.
“The competition for second and third was tight to the finish and came down to the final few events tabulated,” Flathead Head Coach Shannon O’Donnell said. “Glacier finished higher in those events and came out ahead of Flathead this time. It was an exciting race to the finish this weekend. Bozeman was phenomenal in debate, and both Kalispell schools fought hard to the end.”
Glacier Head Coach Greg Adkins highlighted the progress the team has made since the start of the season.
“Very excited on our improvement in the past month. We are much stronger than we were a month ago, and seem to moving the right direction. As always, Bozeman looks tough, but I loved our efforts this weekend,” Adkins said.
In Class A, Whitefish High School clinched a win with 13.5 overall points, edging out second-place finisher Corvallis with 12 points. Belgrade took third with 8 overall points.
“We were very proud to have held our own in a field of 700 competitors and to earn the Class A championship,” Whitefish Head Coach Sara Mueller said. “This was a great opportunity to see what the east side of our state will bring prior to the state tournament held in January in Belgrade and to prepare ourselves for the judging pool we will face during that tournament.”
