Jack Avis Jarrett , 93
Jack Avis Jarrett , 93, of Whitefish, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018; he lived a life many would envy.
Born Sept. 12, 1925, in Bocova, Virginia, Jack started life much like the storyline from Huck Finn. He spent his early years exploring the countryside of New York. His grandfather owned a sawmill and his father, a butcher shop. Jack varied his days between childhood mischief and assisting in the orchards and butcher shop.
Jack always desired to serve and help others. With World War II in full swing, he signed up for the Navy at 17 years old, making his 18th birthday his first day of service. He served in the Navy as a gunner on the Amerigo Vespucci in the South Pacific. Jack was extremely proud of his service and was often found sporting his World War II memorial hat; the same hat he was wearing at the time of his passing.
After the war, Jack became a lineman, enjoying a career full of travel and adventure, satisfying his nomad heart.
Jack met the love of his life, Vera Smith, at the county fair in Lewistown. They would spend the next 70-plus years married, raising a beautiful family in an adventurous life. Jack and Vera were inseparable. He would do anything to make Vera happy as she was truly the love of his life. Vera was at Jack’s side, along with the rest of his family, at the time of his passing.
Jack is survived by his wife Vera, daughter JudyDel and husband Jim, and daughter-number-two, Martha. Jack is also survived by grandchildren, Mark, Jack, Farah, Jeff and Jarrett; and great-grandchildren, Jess, Taylor, Jack, Emalee, Blake, Austin, Hunter, Rylan and Easton, as well as a great-great-granddaughter, Rowan.
Please come join Jack’s family in celebrating his legendary life. Services will be held at 738 3rd Avenue West in Columbia Falls at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21. This is the Columbia Falls Canvas Church Campus, previously known as the Assembly of God Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to Camp Journey; a program in support of childhood cancer. Donations can be left during the services.
