Classical musicians to take the stage at La Salle Grange

The La Salle Grange Theatre welcomes award-winning classical musicians for a concert to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Violinist Wai Mizutani, who has performed at Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall, and acclaimed cellist Jessica Chen from Taiwan will present Chinese music written for the Western-style orchestra at shows on Feb. 9 and 10, both beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $19 at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3319130

Chen began studying the cello at the age of 9 in her native Taiwan. With merit scholarship, she studied with Marion Feldman and Lorne Munroe at Manhattan School of Music, New York. Chen is a founding member of Ars Trio Taipei, which has performed at festivals such as the Banff Music Festival and FAME Music Festival, and toured in Taiwan, United States and Israel.

Mizutani graduated from the Juilliard School of Music and his career has included orchestral performances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist for various orchestras across the globe, including the West Coast Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Mizutani has been recognized for his noted performances in Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, as well as for securing top honors in the Taiwan International Competition and Five Towns Violin Competition. Throughout his career, he has performed with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Arnold Steinhardt, Glenn Dicterow, Kurt Masur and Zubin Mehta.
