Bipartisan disdain: A pox on both their houses
At this at this particular time I seem to have something of a problem with supporting candidates for political office in either of the main political parties.
To begin I’ll start with the Republicans. Republicans seem to have a problem respecting the environment. I remember a television program that featured John Stossel, who was then employed by Fox News. He was demonstrating the effectiveness of environmental laws the majority of which had been enacted by Democrats. He took a plunge into a river in New York City. He stressed the point that years ago that river had been so polluted that he wouldn’t have dared to enter it. Now he put on his swim suit and swam in it. Legislation had been enacted to begin the process of cleaning up some of that pollution. Now I note that since Republicans have taken control of both houses of Congress, Trump has stated his attempt to begin the process of eliminating some of these rules. I wonder how much this will affect the air and water quality that has been so improved, because I also recall a program that pointed out how much pollution was affecting people — some people dying due to illnesses mainly caused by pollution.
Then there was an article, I believe in the Inter Lake, where our Republican senator, Steve Daines, was lamenting the closure of an area from logging due to the impact it would have on the grizzly bear population in that area. Don’t get me wrong, I supported Steve for other reasons in our elections. I believe in development but with some caution involved due to environmental impact.
I tend to be swayed somewhat by the Book of Revelations in the Bible, chapter 11, the last part of verse 18, which reads in part “... Your servants the prophets and the saints, and those who fear your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.” Pretty plain language, is it not?
Then the Democrats come in for their share.
Their stance on abortion. That’s a developing human life there in the womb. I tend to believe right from conception that that life belongs to that developing human being. The mother is the caretaker of that life. And what is so absolutely nauseating is pictures of almost fully developed human beings having their heads crushed in the womb before being extracted. That Bible verse Isaiah 44:2 comes to mind. I’ll quote in part, “Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb ...”
Then we have what the Bible says on the matter of homosexuality in Paul’s words at 1 Corinthians 6:9 which reads, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”
Then I recall Benghazi. There were over, I believe, over 600, not 60, warnings to either pull our people out of there or reinforce that position. Hillary Clinton was in charge of our people there. She did not either make sure reinforcements were sent nor did she pull her people out. Those people were serving under her as she was secretary of state.
Then we have Barack Obama. He was advised not to pull our military completely out but to leave a small force there. In case real problems developed. Well ISIS did develop and what did he refer to them as? (when they were torturing and beheading people) Oh they’re just a J.V. team (junior varsity). It’s taken Trump to really go after them. Give him credit for that.
Then we have the corruption in the Obama FBI beginning to come to light. The birth of the Mueller investigation beginning to be analyzed. The documents of the FBI and DOJ showing the investigation of Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia to be false and Hillary’s team initiating the spying on the Trump team illegally with the use of FISA warrants issued using false information. We have some members having viewed these documents — mostly Republican. Most, if not all, Democrats refused to even look at them.
