Defense carries Bravettes to win over Hellgate

MISSOULA — After struggling in the first quarter, Flathead locked down defensively in the final three to secure a 36-31 girls basketball Western AA conference victory on Thursday night.

The Bravettes were outscored 17-11 in the first period but limited the Knights to just 14 points the rest of the way.

Tied at 26-all after three quarters, Flathead won the fourth 10-5.

Clara Vandenbosch led the Bravettes with 11 points, including four fourth-quarter free throws that helped ice the game. Mary Heaton added 10 points, seven of which came in the first half.

MISSOULA — Glacier limited Missoula Big Sky to single-digit scoring in every quarter of a comfortable Western AA win.

The Wolfpack pulled away with a 13-5 advantage in the first quarter and led 24-14 at halftime.

Kali Gulick took scoring honors for Glacier with 12 points.

Ellie Stevens, Aubrie Rademacher, Anna Schrade and Alivia Atlee all contributed six.

Missoula Hellgate pounded Flathead in a Western AA matchup, handing the Braves their second straight conference loss.

The Knights bested the Braves 38-21 in the second half as Flathead’s offense sputtered down the stretch. The game was tied at 29 at halftime.

Sam Elliott, the only Brave who reached double figures, dropped 18 points.

Rollie Worster scored a game-high 20 points for Hellgate.

Glacier shut down Missoula Big Sky in the first half, which proved to be the difference in the Western AA contest.

The Wolfpack scored 15 points in the second quarter and allowed only two, a margin that provided the difference in its 13-point victory.

Kody Jarvis paced Glacier with 10 points. Brec Rademacher, Drew Engellant and Alex Whitman all chipped in seven.
