Whitefish Olympian Maggie Voisin competes tonight
Whitefish freeskier Maggie Voisin takes center stage at the PyeongChang Winter Games today.
Voisin, 19, is a favorite heading into the women’s slopestyle contest after grabbing gold at the Winter X Games last month.
This is Voisin’s second trip to the Olympics. She qualified for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, but fractured her ankle during a training run and was unable to compete.
Fellow Team USA freeskier Darian Stevens of Missoula is also competing in slopestyle tonight.
Slopestyle skiers navigate a downhill course of rails and jumps and are scored on their tricks and abilities.
Today’s Olympic slopestyle event features a qualifying round beginning at 6 p.m., followed by the finals beginning at 9 p.m. Primetime coverage on NBC begins at 6 p.m. Each round will also be streamed live online at www.NBCOlympics.com.
A few local businesses will be hosting Olympics watch parties, including the Craggy Range Bar and Grill and Great Northern Brewing Company on Central Avenue in Whitefish, and the Pin and Cue on U.S. 93 South in Whitefish.
