POCATELLO, Id. — Two Flathead Valley runners finished third in their respective events at the prestigious Simplot Games, an indoor track and field event, on the Idaho State University campus on Saturday.

Bigfork’s Bryn Morley finished the girls 1,600-meter run in four minutes and 58 seconds, six seconds behind the winner. Flathead’s Ben Perrin clocked a 9:26 in the boys 3,200-meter run, finishing 22 seconds off the blazing pace of the winner but less than a second out of the runner-up position.

Morley, a senior, enters her final high school track season months removed from her third consecutive individual cross country state championship.

She blew away the Class B field in October at the state meet in Helena, besting the runner-up by a minute and 20 seconds in the 5-kilometer race.

Perrin, a junior, was the Valley’s top finisher in the Class AA boys state meet, completing the 5K in 16:18 to finish sixth.

The Simplot Games, first held in 1979, annually draws more than 2,000 competitors from 20 states, Canada, Mexico and Australia.
