Pat Saville, 89

Pat Saville passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Feb. 13, 2018. The day before, she was cooking her breakfast, calling her friends for a card game and enjoying the Olympics on TV.

Patricia Ann Midgley was born to Carolyn McCune and Chester Midgley on March 10, 1928. She spent her early years in Salt Lake Cit. She had a keen interest in music and sang in trios and quartets in high school and college, as well as various choruses in school and church.

During her sophomore year at the University of Utah, while on a ski bus headed for Alta, she met Bob Saville when they had all joined their voices for fun. In 1948 Bob and Pat married and entertained friends and sang with the Boise and Houston symphonies with well-known conductors. Bob Saville worked for Continental Oil Co., so the family moved around the western U.S. several times.

In 1955 their son Jack arrived while living in Salt Lake City. In 1959 their daughter Jane arrived while living in Houston.

While on their honeymoon in 1948, they stumbled upon the Flathead and vowed to retire here in the distant future. Sure enough, Bob and Pat purchased a small home near Yellow Bay in 1975.

Here in the Flathead, Pat was an avid supporter of the arts and humanities. She herself was a painter and sold her oils on canvas around the Flathead. She was a working member of the Bigfork Art Center, as well as a member of the local chapter of P.E.O., which grants scholarships to young women seeking a college education. She supported the Hockaday Museum of Arts and PBS.

Her husband Bob and her daughter Jane preceded her in death. Her son Jack, grandchildren Elizabeth Howard and Rodney Dyer, and their children, are all with us.
