Tree rings point to an ever changing climate
Steve Barrett’s letter on the Dec. 10 Opinion page reminded me of something I learned several years ago from a friend of mine studying at Fresno State California.
His science class went on a field trip to an area near Sequoia National Park, the home of the giant sequoias (redwood trees). Many of these giants had been cut for lumber before their stands became part of a national park. Due to the fire resistive nature of redwoods, they survived many years of forest fires. These students were instructed to study the rings of the stumps. They were able to see that over 2,000 years or more, and there had been various wet years, dry years, hot years and colder years.
This indicates climate change has been happening long before man used so-called fossil fuel, oil, gas and coal which are part of the Earth’s creation. So much for so-called man-made global warming or as it was later changed to after we had a period of cooling about 10 years ago — “climate change.” Most true scientists will acknowledge that many years ago we had an ice age before it warmed as a natural part of Earth’s creation so humans and other creatures could live here. This marvelous planet was created by God for us to live on. —Dexter Hamilton, Kalispell
Divided States
I’d like to write about the Divided States of America. Yes, you read it right. We are not and never will be united again.
I have watched in horror for 53 years now the complete devastation that Congress puts on the people only to elect some bonehead who does it even more than the last guy. As long as the rich boneheads run America, it can and never will be united. If the rich people unite, then the poor people — yes, we the people — will up rise. So what are you idiots waiting for? Pull the trigger and end this world. When one group gets attacked, then another waits, then follows.
See, now the women are rising up against the men. I have heard so many things on this issue, but in reality all it’s doing is making men not want to hire woman, or that’s what all the men I talk to say.
If President Trump wants tax cuts, then he should stop being a bully and work with all people in Congress. They are after all people. Not very good people, but they are people and they should have a say in everything our country does against its own people. The economy is not good and never will be. We live now on computers; all money floats in the air like neutrons and atoms — and we dismiss all things, just forget them after they come to be. Stop the madness, America, and clean up your act before you do start the civil war. We do not live in a safe country; never have. You’re not safe anywhere. —Robert Welch Kalispell
