Wrestling Nadeau, Hume, Braves win Pacific NW Classic titles
SPOKANE, Wash. —Tucker Nadeau added another wrestling title to his perfect season and the Flathead Braves picked up another team trophy on Saturday at the Pacific Northwest Classic.
Nadeau (31-0) pinned Brandon Iris of Freeman in the final at 182 pounds in 1 minute, 56 seconds. He won by an 8-3 decision in the semifinals and posted a pin in the quarterfinals of the two-day event.
Nadeau was joined on top of the podium by teammate Payton Hume at 160. Hume decisioned Josh Johnson of North Central in the final 3-0.
Hume won by decision, 6-0, in the semifinals and pinned his two previous tournament foes before that.
Hume is now 31-2 on the season.
Flathead’s other finalists were Tilynne Vasquez (106), Colby Martin (170) and Alex Paull (285). All three were second.
Jaden MacNeil (132), Tanner Russell (145) and Kenyon Fretwell (152) placed third.
Those high places helped Flathead roll up a team best 219 score. University High School of Spokane was second at 209 1/2. Mead, 185, was third.
“Jaden MacNeil lost his first match and came all the way through the back door to take third,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.
“Jaden really impressed us and has improved so much this season.
“Kenyon Fretwell wrestled very well this weekend. Tilynne wrestled really well, being this was her first meet of the year. She just needs to get lungs going and she will be right there by the end of the year.
“Hunter Wellcome has been on fire the last couple of weeks placing again.
“Overall, we are very happy with our progress over Christmas break. We just have to continue to improve and not be complacent. We need to keep up our attacking style of wrestling and work hard to get better every week.”
