C-Falls, Bigfork sweep Whitefish, T-Falls in basketball

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls did the bulk of its scoring in the final quarter — 31 points — to upend Whitefish 57-25 in a Northwest A conference girls basketball game on Thursday evening.

“One of those crazy games,” Columbia Falls coach Cary Finberg said.

“It happens.”

But not very often for Columbia Falls.

The Wildkats could muster just three points in the first quarter and three in the second for a 12-8 halftime lead.

“We shot 18 percent,” Finberg said.

“Could get nothing to go.”

Columbia Falls (9-1 overall, 4-0 league) failed to score from the three-minute mark of the first quarter until Dani Douglas nailed a 3 with 39 seconds to go in the first half.

Those were the only points Douglas had on the night.

Trista Cowan led Columbia Falls offensively with 16 points. Hannah Gedlaman had 10 and Ryley Kehr nine.

Payton Kastella had a big game for Whitefish with 12 points.

THOMPSON FALLS — Ten different players figured in the scoring as Bigfork thumped Thompson Falls in a District 7B contest.

Jaime Berg led the scoring parade for the Valkyries with 14 points. She was the lone player to finish in double digits.

Shae Anderson had nine points for the victors while Ellie Berreth and Ansleigh Edgerton were up next with eight apiece.

Sarah Detlaff topped Thompson Falls with seven points.

Bigfork led 35-11 at the intermission.

THOMPSON FALLS — A strong second quarter made up for a slow start as Bigfork blew by Thompson Falls in a District 7B test.

Bigfork ripped off 27 points in the second quarter to take a 40-28 halftime lead.

Thompson Falls led 17-13 after the first eight minutes of play.

Bigfork outscored the hosts 47-31 in the second half.

Beau Santisteven led a balanced Bigfork attack with 20 points. Anders Epperly and Colten Reichenbach both netted 16 and Logan Gilliard added 14.

Danny Hoisington scored 21 points for Thompson Falls.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Austin Green poured in 17 points, and Drew Morgan scored 14 more as Columbia Falls toppled Whitefish for its first Northwest A conference win of the season.

The Wildcats, who held a narrow, three-point lead at halftime, limited the Bulldogs to seven points in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring the visitors 31-14 in the second half.

Logan Bechtel also scored in double digits for Columbia Falls, tallying 10.

Ryan Kemm was Whitefish’s only scorer in double figures with 13.
