Glacier Symphony: Movie Music and Young Soloists Concert
Glacier Symphony will bring two outstanding young soloists to the stage for a concert for the entire family this month that will include both classical pieces and popular movie music from “Lord of the Rings,” “Titanic” and “Star Wars.”
Performing the first movement of Edvard Grieg’s popular “Piano Concerto in A” will be pianist Tanner Jorden, who recently won the junior division of the Montana Association of Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artists Competition. The 15-year-old, who hails from Billings, began his musical career at the age of 7 when he drew his own staves and composed at the piano.
Young trumpet sensation Natalie Dungey, from Seattle, will be the featured soloist on the “Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major” by Franz Joseph Haydn, a tuneful classical era masterpiece. The 19-year-old currently attends the University of California, Los Angeles on a full music scholarship.
Maestro John Zoltek will briefly interview the soloists from the stage so they can share their own thoughts on what inspires and motivates them to strive for musical excellence.
The second half of the concert will be devoted to movie music favorites including John Williams’ “The Force Awakens,” from “Star Wars,” the romantic theme music from “Titanic,” composed by James Horner (celebrating the 20th anniversary of this popular film), and music from two “Lord of the Rings” movies by Howard Shore.
“This concert will be a fantastic opportunity to experience young artists playing great classical masterpieces and also enjoy movie scores at the same time. It will be a fun combination of classical and movie music,” says Zoltek.
