| January 20, 2018 12:48 AM

Helen Margaret Kraft Jans, 88, “went home to her Lord and Savior” on Jan. 17, 2018.

Helen was born Nov. 14, 1929, in Kalispell to Walter and Alma (Nommensen) Kraft.

She joined three older siblings; a brother completed the family a few years later. Helen graduated from Flathead County High School in 1947 and earned a degree from Northern Montana College in 1949.

While working in Great Falls, Helen met airman Leslie Jans. They married in Kalispell on Nov. 7, 1951. The couple lived in Les’ hometown of Windom, Minnesota, where their children were born, and returned to Montana, eventually settling in Kalispell.

Helen was active in Trinity Lutheran Church. Helen enjoyed gardening and delighted in growing flowers. She also enjoyed baking. Helen and Les loved the outdoors and spent happy days hiking and fishing throughout Northwestern Montana, especially in Glacier Park. They traveled in retirement, visiting Europe, Alaska, and the eastern United States.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband and parents, as well as siblings Herbert, Ruth Tyler and Albert.

She is survived by her brother Paul, children Christopher Jans (Audrey Mack) and Bridget Michel (Jerry), and several nieces and nephews.

The family expresses thanks to all who prayed and cared for Helen, especially the staff at Edgewood Vista and Frontier Hospice. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, School, or Camp.

Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in the spring.
