Man advised to stop saying 'hello'

A 13-year-old on Wisconsin Avenue told Whitefish Police Department that a transient who was allegedly sleeping in a bed of trash jumped out and scared him while he was walking through an alley. Police made contact with a man who reportedly stated that he just said “hello” to the teen. The man was advised not to do that anymore.

A man on Baker Avenue reportedly tried to return a message to police by calling a non-emergency number regarding a report he made days ago and said no one answered. When dispatchers asked what number he dialed the man allegedly said “well, I dunno” and gave a bit of an attitude before hanging up.

A Baker Avenue resident told police that a renter/squatter was allegedly “manipulating” electricity in the house through the use of an extension cord to a trailer, but noted it was only speculation at this point.

Not much later, another call came in from a woman on Baker Avenue who said she was scared and that “everything just shut off,” and wanted law enforcement to speak to squatters in her driveway, but disconnected before providing more information.

Someone at First Avenue East North store in Kalispell was concerned that a woman reportedly seen skipping and spinning out of the store was in no condition to be driving. The person called Flathead County Sheriff’s Department again to report that the woman was driving and stopping at intersections where there weren’t stop signs. Law enforcement found no indicators of impairment in the woman’s driving.

A barking complaint was received from someone on South Meridian Road in Kalispell. Dispatchers relayed to officers that there may be two dogs in the vicinity and the “offender looks to be spaniel mix, brown and white.” The dog was allegedly a repeat offender as the person calling in the complaint claimed similar reports have been made in the past by other neighbors.

A stolen vehicle located on Arcadia Way in Columbia Falls had to be towed as it was found with only three wheels.

A Kalispell woman reported that a neighbor told her they allegedly saw someone standing in her doorway while she was not home. There was reportedly no apparent forced entry and she found a drawer had been opened and a light turned on.

Officers received a report of alleged drug activity on U.S. 2 E. in Kalispell involving four people and weed. The person making the call was described as “all over the place” with information. Officers arrived to the scene and the drug complaint appeared to be unfounded. However, the person reportedly stated a woman who had left earlier had been the person with the drugs and gave the officer a needle.

A woman on Rolling Ridge Loop in Kalispell spotted two teens grab a shovel out of her toolshed after ringing her doorbell. The woman didn’t want to press charges because she believed they got stuck somewhere and needed the shovel, but wanted them to get a “talking to” about their “decisions and actions” if found. The woman later had the suspects detained and called the boys’ parents. It turns out the teens’ did take the shovel to dig out their ATV, which was stuck in the snow down the road. The parties were counseled.

An unsatisfied customer in Kalispell allegedly purchased a miniature poodle puppy he found online for $650 and never received the dog nor could he reach the seller who blocked his phone number.

Someone wasn’t sure if a loud bang and flash allegedly coming out of a vehicle with one headlight passing them on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell were from a firework or gunshot.

A physical disturbance was reported on Riverstone Drive in Kalispell when a reportedly combative man with lacerations on his head pulled a handle off a door. The man, who had purportedly been drinking all day, refused medical attention.

Bigfork Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 7:17 a.m. Sunday on Bridge Street. It turned out that no structure was involved, rather a transient had started a fire to warm up by on the patio of a downtown business according to Bigfork Fire Chief Mark Thiry.
