Top cellist to perform concert, co-teach at FVCC

World-renowned cellist Jessica Chen of Taiwan will join violinists Wai Mizutani and Lauren Welch for the year’s first concert performance at Flathead Valley Community Friday, Feb. 2.

Chen studied with Marion Feldman and Lorne Munroe at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and has built an international following through performances at concert halls around the world, including Canada, the United States, Costa Rica and Israel.

Now an associate professor at National Taipei University of Education, Shih-Chien University and National Taichung University, Chen will also co-teach two free masters classes with her husband at FVCC on Feb. 8 and 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the large community room of the Arts and Technology building.

All student and community musicians are invited to participate.

FVCC’s spring semester concert series will continue March 2 with performances by faculty members Wai Mizutani, Nicole Sanford, Micah Hunter, Craig Naylor and guest artists from Dawson Community College’s Music Department, Dr. Tsai-Ying Li on French horn and Dr. Wei Pai on piano.

Both concerts will take place in the community room in the Arts and Technology Building at FVCC beginning at 7 p.m.
