Raymond 'Ray' Duffy, 92

| July 7, 2018 4:00 AM

Ray Duffy passed away peacefully on June 20, 2018.

Ray spent his formative years in Rhode Island. With World War II in progress, he enlisted in the Navy at age 17 with plans to spend his life as a career military professional. He served in the signal corps and was on the bridge of the USS Arkansas on D-Day at Normandy. He later joined the Army and was posted in Japan until the Korean War. Just 24 years old, Ray took a bullet in each leg during a firefight. His right leg was amputated above the knee as a lifesaving measure.

Not letting the disability change his life, Ray went to college, married and started a family. Ray was so proud of his four daughters and one son, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He owned and operated a successful contracting business in Florida until his retirement. Ray lived in Lakeside and Bigfork for many years.

Ray was a genuine people person, had a sharp wit and enjoyed conversation and social settings. He enjoyed most the “night on the town” with dancing and dining and a little wine. He was well read and remembered everything.

Ray was a member of the “Greatest Generation” who paid his own way and lived life on his own terms. He was a patriot, hero, good father and friend — who could ask for more.

At Ray’s request, no services are planned.
