Twins A win tourney finale; Lakers AA in title game

WHITEFISH — After tough back-to-back 1-run setbacks, the Glacier Twins A rebounded for an 11-1 victory over the Butte Miners AA at the 34th annual Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Baseball Tournament on Saturday evening at Memorial Field.

Glacier, 1-3 in tournament play, put the game to rest with an eight run third inning.

Glacier had 12 hits, led by Ryan Veneman, Terek Bistodeau and Caleb Meehan, who were all 2 for 3.

Meehan had three RBIs.

Veneman had the Twins only extra-base hit, a double.

Veneman and Coby Clark-Dickenson both drove in two runs.

In Saturday’s other two games, it was Kalispell Lakers AA 8, Butte 0 (game results not available) and Palouse Patriots AA 5, Lethbridge 1.

Tournament play ends today with the Lakers playing Palouse for the championship at noon. Kalispell is 4-0 in tournament play and has won seven of its last eight games.

Kalispell Lakers A 8

Mission Valley led 5-1 after two innings and five-run fourth kept the margin at four runs, 10-6, en route to the win on second-day action at the John R. Harp Memorial Tournament at Griffin Field.

Dylan Wisniewski was the winning pitcher and helped his cause by going 2 for 4 and driving in three runs.

The Mariners outhit the Lakers 14-11. All nine batters for the Mariners had at least one hit.

Jack Corriveau had a big offensive game for the Lakers, going 3 for 4 and driving in a run. Payton Davisson, 2 for 2, had two RBIs for Kalispell.

Reid Barrows and Ryan McDonald also had two RBIs each for Kalispell.

Kalispell played the Fort Macleod Royals in a late Saturday eveninggame.

The tournament ends today with three games — 10 a.m. Medicine Hat Knights vs. Fort Macleod; 12:30 p.m. Vauxhall Spurs vs. Mission Valley; and 3 p.m. — Medicine Hat vs. Kalispell Lakers.

LIBBY — Cranbrook swept an American Legion baseball doubleheader from the Libby Loggers A.

Cranbrook tallied eight runs in the final two innings to rally for the victory in the opener.

Cranbrook capitalized on nine Libby errors to coast to an easy win in the second meeting.

Tim Carvey, 2 for 3, homered and drove in four runs for Libby in Game 2.

Shayne Walker, 2 for 3, and Jeff Offenbecker, 1 for 3, doubled and tripled, respectively, for Libby in the first game. The Loggers were up 4-2 after two innings, but failed to score after that.
