The Democratic candidate campaigning for Montana’s Senate District 5 seat withdrew from the race June 29.

Jennifer Allen said she withdrew her candidacy after her husband was diagnosed with cancer.

“Unfortunately, out of the blue after eight years of remission, my husband Mark is facing a renewed battle with cancer,” Allen wrote on her campaign website. “My focus must now be with supporting my lifelong partner of 43 years, not on the need to ramp up a campaign between now and November.”

Incumbent Republican Sen. Bob Keenan currently represents Senate District 5, which is comprised of an area stretching from Kalispell and Evergreen southeast to Bigfork and Swan Lake.

Allen ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
