Peltier on pole for Montana 200

Preston Peltier of Fort Lupton, Colorado, won the pole position for a second-straight year on Friday evening at Montana Raceway Park for the 28th Montana 200.

Peltier turned in a speedy 12.836-second time during super late model lap qualifying to earn the No. 1 spot.

Peltier’s top qualifying time a year ago was 12.868.

Jan Evans of Wenatchee, Washington, was second, 12.889, followed by Alex Lessor of Kalispell, 12.899, Jeremy Doss of Upper Lake, California, 12.97, and Tayler Riddle of Naches, Washington, of 12.975.

Those five were the only drivers to check in under 13 seconds in a field of 27.

Lessor finished eighth last year in the 200, which was the top showing by a local driver. His other lap time during Friday qualifying was 13.06.

Doss had better luck this time around. A year ago the defending 200 champ blew an engine during a morning practice session before qualifying.

Riddle figures to be one of the main challenge again as he’s finished fourth, third and second, respectively, in the 200 the last three years.

His brother Owen Riddle won it last year, finishing 1.566 seconds ahead of Tayler.

The Montana 200 is a sanctioned Northwest Super Late Model Series (NWSLMS) event.

The 200-lap main event didn’t begin Saturday until after 9:15 p.m.
