Mick E. Morin, 66

| July 22, 2018 7:28 PM

After suffering a heart attack on July 14, Mick E. Morin died July 20, 2018, surrounded by his family at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Mick was born in Kalispell on Dec. 11, 1951, to Willard and Carolyn. He was raised in Marion with his brother Doug and his sister Lori. His fondest childhood memories were of fishing at Bitterroot Lake with his beloved Grandpa Joe.

Mick was a gifted musician and had a beautiful singing voice. He and his family played in several bands all around the Flathead Valley. Many will remember hearing them at the old KB and the Bigfork Inn. He attended Flathead High School and the University of Montana where he studied art history.

In 1971, he married Peggy Brousseau and together they had three children: Brandi, Chad and Kevin. In 1974, Mick and his brother-in-law, Jim Brousseau, started Arrowhead Bronze. For 20 years they worked together along with Mick’s brother Doug, creating beautiful works of art with artists such as Bob Scriver, Ace Powell, and Gary Schildt.

In 1993, Mick married Kristyn Linrude. After moving to a house on 4th Street West with a small hobby greenhouse in the backyard, in 1995 Mick started Wild Geese Gardens, which he continued to operate with his son, Kevin, until the time of his death.

Mick was affectionately known as a Renaissance man because of his varied interests. He loved to hunt and fish and hiked many miles in the Swan hunting with his dear friend Stu Stadler as well as his boys, Chad and Kevin. He was an excellent cook and always cooked for a crowd, even if he was cooking for one. He loved to travel. His 50th birthday trip to New Orleans and a trip to Italy were among his favorites. He enjoyed reading, but only hardback books, and loved watching all sports. He believed everyone should watch the movie “Jeramiah Johnson” every October to appreciate living in Montana.

Mick is survived by his children, Brandi (Tony) Reiner, Chad (MiAnne) Morin, Kevin (Hailey) Morin and stepdaughter, Jillian Lehr, his mother, Carolyn Tonkinson, his brother, Doug (Shelia) Morin, his sister, Lorri (Mike) Moriarty, his grandchildren Hudson, Kendal, Tucker, and Kenlie, his nieces and nephews, Erin (Mark) Braaten, Beau Morin, Michael and Summer Moriarty as well as close friends, Stu Stadler, George Best, BJ Newgard and Ed Mitch. He is preceded in death by his father Willard Morin, his step-father, Tom Tonkinson and twin grandsons, Wyatt and Cooper Morin.

Mick’s family would like to thank the first responders and the ICU staff at Kalispell Regional Medical Center for their amazing care and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthews in Kalispell. Memorial donations can be made to A.L.E.R.T.
