Hader hurls Twins past Mariners 9-0 at West A District

HAMILTON — The Glacier Twins rode a strong pitching performance by Nathan Hader for a 9-0 victory over the Mission Valley Mariners on Friday at the West A District American Legion baseball tournament.

Hader tossed a two-hitter. He walked one batter and struck out one in going the distance.

The Twins clubbed 11 hits, led by Dan Seymour, 2 for 2, Caleb Meehan, 2 for 3, and Ryan Veneman, 2 for 4.

Coby Clark-Dickenson (third inning) and Veneman (fourth) homered.

Veneman, Tom Hellwig and Quintin Schriver had doubles.

Clark-Dickenson had three RBIs. Veneman drove in two base runners.

“We played well today,” Twins coach Scott Murray said.

“Hader did a fantastic job on the mound and Clark-Dickenson, for a second straight day, homered. We are playing really good ball right now. I am proud of them.”

The Twins play again today at 4 p.m. and will face the winner of Friday’s late game between the Bitterroot Bucs and Bitterroot Red Sox. Today’s 4 p.m. winner is in the championship game on Sunday.

Mission Valley has a loser-out test today at 10 a.m. with the Missoula Mavericks.

HAMILTON — The Lakers get to hang around for another day.

Kalispell scored in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory.

Libby scored a run in the top of the sixth to tie it at 7-all.

The Loggers outhit the Lakers 9-5 and stranded 11 runners to Kalispell’s nine.

The Lakers held a 5-1 lead after three innings.

Shayne Walker, 2 for 4, drove in two runs for Libby.

Ben Corriveau scored three times for the Lakers.

Jack Corriveau pitched the final 3 1/3 innings to pick up the win. He allowed two hits, three runs, struck out two and walked three.

The Lakers are back in action today at 1 p.m. versus the loser of Friday’s late game — Bitterroot Red Sox and Bitterroot Bucs.

The Red Sox, the second seed, have won the last two district tournaments. They beat the Lakers last year in the title game 3-0.
