| June 6, 2018 4:00 AM

Margaret “Peggy” J. Johnson, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2018, in Kalispell, surrounded by family.

She was born in 1933 in Anaconda to Dennis and Rose Callan. Her early years were colored by her beloved extended family and friends, her Catholic upbringing, and Anaconda’s rich mining history. She graduated from Western Montana College with an elementary teaching degree and began teaching in Kalispell in 1954.

She married the love of her life, Kevin “Cab” Johnson in 1956. For many years, Peggy and Cab’s lives centered around St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and school where she taught second grade and where her children attended school. Peggy was born to be a teacher. Her love of teaching was a lifelong endeavor. Later, in her retirement years, former students would express to her their fond memories of being in her classroom.

She enjoyed a good golf game, celebrating her Irish heritage and especially loved her weekly bridge games with her dear friends.

She and Cab loved their winters in Arizona where they met many lifelong friends. Spending time with her nine grandchildren was her greatest joy. In her later years Peggy was an active parishioner at Risen Christ Catholic Church in Evergreen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kevin.

She leaves behind her five children, Mary (Marc) Connolly, K.C. (Rachelle) Johnson, Janice (Tim) Dunnahoo, Ruthann (Jeff) Little and Joe Johnson; her nine grandchildren, Eric, Megan, Abby, Rusty, Mackenzie, Kevin, Clare, Alex and Callan; and three great-grandchildren, Kolbe, Caleb and Mateo.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 8, at Risen Christ Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Matthew’s Catholic School or Risen Christ Catholic Church.

Darlington Cremation and Burial Service is caring for Peggy’s family.
